Costume Guidelines
Here are some “Please DO” and some ‘Please DO NOT’S” that you need to consider when planning your costume for Moroni’s Quest:
- Costumes are to be worn at all times (except when sleeping). This helps to get in the right spirit and frame of mind for the different re-enactments from the Book of Mormon.
- TWO COSTUMES ARE REQUIRED.
- Costumes are to be just below the knee in length. It is acceptable to cut a short slip up the sides for ease of movement. Please reinforce the slits as the battle scenes are particularly active and sides seams are torn easily.
- Make costumes large enough to accommodate clothing worn underneath. You are encouraged to wear a t-shirt and shorts underneath your costume. If the weather is cool you may want to wear jeans or flannel pants underneath.
- Mornings and evenings can be cool. However, all jackets and hoodies are to be underneath the costume, so please make sure costumes are large enough to accommodate these.
- For costumes, use earth tones, blues, greens, browns and natural dyes that would have been in the Book of Mormon times. Fabrics that look woven or have stripes are okay. PLEASE DO NOT use extra bright colors or fabrics with large prints, flowers or obvious designs. (Try to think of what the Nephites would have worn.)
- You may choose to have a head covering of some sort. You may wear a headband (around the forehead and tied in the back) or a “Shepherd’s” head covering to protect against the sun. Ball caps, toques, knit caps, etc. WILL NOT be allowed.
- Footwear – you will need TWO good pair of walking shoes, hiking boots or runners. Sturdy sandals with Velcro or snaps may be brought but NO FLIP FLOPS. The terrain is rough and you will be doing lots of walking.
- Have fun accessorizing your costume with trims, buttons, sashes, tie belts, contrasting materials, etc. but remember that you are trying to look like the inhabitants at the time of the Book of Mormon.
